Today we would like to share about the gold colors commonly used in jewelry making. They are Yellow, Pink and White. These 3 gold colors also varies according to the fineness of gold. The original metal color of gold is yellow. In order to made jewelry, 24K gold have to be mixed with other metals to be able to work easier for jewelers and to increase gold jewelry's durability. Among the gold's fineness, we are going to share about 18K gold colors as we are using to make our jewelry.

18K gold contains 75% of pure 24K gold and 25% of other metals mixture (Alloy).

18K Yellow Gold contains 24K Gold (75%) and Silver-Copper (25%).

18K Pink Gold contains 24K Gold (75%) and Silver-Copper (25%) where % of Copper is larger than % of Silver to produce Pink Color. According to desired Pink colors the % of Copper can be adjusted.

18K White Gold contains 24K Gold (75%) and Palladium-Silver (25%) (or) Nickel-Copper-Zinc (25%). As there are 75% of 24K gold, the white color of 18K gold is still at Warm White color. It will not be White Metallic color like Silver.

“So, there are 2 facts to consider. (1) To maintain the fineness of gold at 18K (2) To make the gold color to be White Metallic”

ree

(1) As the metal ratio of 18K, 24K Gold (75%) and Palladium-Silver (25%) (or) Nickel-Copper-Zinc (25%) are mixed and resulting the 18K Warm White Gold color.

(2) To result White Metallic color gold, larger proportion of the mentioned metals mixture (alloy) (or) Silver can be added. Therefore, the ratio will not be 75% and 25%. The % of 24K gold will be reduced and % of alloy (or) Silver is increased. Which results the White Metallic color gold. Since the % of alloy (or) Silver increased, the ratio will vary and resulting 14K White gold, 10K White gold and 8K White Gold.

Nickel and Zinc contains in Nickel-Copper-Zinc Alloy can have side effects such as allergy to wearer depending on individual's body reaction to such metals. Therefore most white gold jewelry are being plated with Rhodium for prevention to skin reaction and also for Silvery-White Metallic color which is also highly reflective.

Disclosure of the fineness of white gold jewelry which are selling in store is essential. Because depending on the condition of wear, the plated Rhodium may fade in times and customers may assume the fineness of the gold is unmatched with it was stated. The color tone differences of 18K White gold (warm white color) and Rhodium plated color is bigger than those of 14K, 10K and 8K as they contain lesser 24K gold proportion.

It is like making coffee. The more milk added to the brownish coffee, the coffee color will become lighter. The more Silvery-White Metallic Color Metal % added to 24K gold, the more white color will enhance.

We, Yangon Little Gems Jewelry set our gold fineness in 18K (18 Karat) to make our jewelry. We provide 3 gold colors which are yellow, pink and white. In White Gold Jewelry, we made both colors which are original warm white color and rhodium plated silvery-white metallic color.

By taking this chance of sharing the knowledge we've learned, we would like to thank to each and everyone of our customers who continuously supporting us from the beginning to till this difficult situation. Thank you so much! We feel very grateful to be able to continue our passion. We will work harder to become a jewelry shop which could bring you happiness.
